The Way of Domei

I’ve sat with plants for over 35 years now, just watching, listening, and feeling how they change me.

For the last 15 years, on my foraging courses, I’ve been inviting others to join me through what I’ve come to call Domei.

It’s quiet, this way of meeting plants. Nothing fancy. Just old knowledge worn smooth by time, sitting comfortably alongside how we live now.

What began as simple walks pointing out edible plants slowly showed me something else entirely.

How we’ve lost touch with plants mirrors how we’ve lost touch with ourselves and the land.

Domei asks for almost nothing, unlike the shiny things that cluster at the edges of wellness culture.

No special gear to buy. No certificates to frame. No carefully arranged altar scenes to photograph.

It just asks you to notice.

I’ve peeled it back to the essentials.

This isn’t mystical or hidden knowledge. No special messages from the cosmos. No secret plant whisperings.

You don’t need a guru, ceremonial tools, or special words repeated in candlelight.

In a world where spiritual practices compete for who can be the most elaborate, Domei feels like drinking cool water from a stream.

It happens right here in the soil, in your actual skin, in that small space where your breath meets the plant’s presence.
